    History is often taught as a sequence of wars, presidencies, and legislative acts. However, this narrative frequently places women at the edges, as supporting characters or exceptional outliers. This book offers a different vantage point by centering the female experience. It proceeds from the conviction that women were not merely present in American history but were the architects of families, economies, and communities that formed the nation's foundation. This textbook aims to move beyond a "famous firsts" approach. While we celebrate the pioneers, we also focus equally on the collective survival strategies of ordinary women. These include the Haudenosaunee Clan Mothers, who selected leaders long before the Constitution; the immigrant women who built mutual aid networks in crowded tenements; and the organizers who fought for labor safety and civil rights.
