A dreamscape is a combination of a soundscape and creating a world through movement. A dreamscape creates a completely immersive experience for your audience and utilizes all of your actors’ talents. You begin with the audience in the round. The cast begins the play by kneeling in a tight circle in the center of the stage and creating a soundscape. Once the ‘blimp’ has entered the scene and the scene is now at full volume, the actors quickly break from the circle and use their bodies to form the setting. The scene continues in this manner until it reaches its climax, at which point the cast reassembles the the circle and uses the soundscape to guide the audience out of the scene.

    Staging Exercise

    • Create a dreamscape with a beginning, middle, and end that uses the actors as the set and for all sound.
    • Your scene must include at least one transition
    • Rehearse for 2 hours and then present
    • Discuss and critique each scene
    • Remember to always focus on successful elements first. People need to know what they are doing well more than they need to know what to improve. Encourage progress and try to give 5 positive comments to each suggestion for improvement.
    • Rehearse for an additional 15 minutes in order to incorporate notes.
    • Present scenes a final time without notes or critique.
