El tiempo presente simple del modo indicativo sirve para hablar de acciones en el momento actual y de situaciones regulares o permanentes:
    Vivo en Honduras. (situación permanente)
Siempre hablamos los domingos. (acción regular)
Buscan al profesor. (acción en el momento actual)

The Simple Present tense of the Indicative Mood is used, as in English, to talk about regular or permanent situations; it also refers to current actions (in progress):
I live in Honduras. (permanent situation)
We always talk on Sundays. (regular action)
They're looking for the teacher. (current action)

    Formas regulares / Regular Forms

Por regla general, los verbos se conjugan en el presente cambiando la terminación del infinitivo (-ar, -er, -ir) para cada persona, así: As a general rule, verbs are conjugated in the Present by changing the infinitive endings (-ar, -er, -ir) for each person, as follows:
(persona) -ar -er -ir hablar comer vivir
    yo -o -o -o hablo como vivo
-as -es -es hablas comes vives
vos -ás -és -ís hablás comés vivís
usted, él, ella -a -e -e habla come vive
nosotros/as -amos -emos -imos hablamos comemos vivimos
vosotros/as -áis -éis -ís habláis coméis vivís

    • Note that the stem (habl-, com-, viv-) is stressed for most persons, but the ending is stressed for vos, nosotros and vosotros: hablás, comemos, vivís.

    • Regular verbs ending in -ger, -gir change the "g" to "j" before -o to represent the appropriate sound (see §2):
escoger → escojo, escoges... ; dirigir → dirijo, diriges...

    • Regular verbs ending in -cer, -cir change the "c" to "z" before -o to represent the appropriate sound (see ;§2):
vencer → venzo, vences... ; esparcir → esparzo, esparces...

    • Regular verbs ending in -guir change the "gu" to "g" before -o to represent the appropriate sound (see §2):
    distinguir → distingo, distingues...

    • Since verb endings generally make obvious who the subject is, subject pronouns are only used for clarity, contrast or emphasis (see §6):
    We speak Spanish.
    I don't live here.

    Usos

The Simple Present Indicative has three basic uses:

    1. To state or ask what we know about the present moment (current qualities and situations, regular or habitual occurrences):
    This horse
    runs faster than the other.
    I
am looking for a nearby restaurant.
Are you now living in Havana?
    We normally
    call in the evening.

    2. To state or ask what we know about something in general which we consider permanent (how things always are):
    Plains
    travel faster than boats.
    You
    learn when you practice.

    3. To state or ask what we know about a future we consider certain and under control in general which we consider permanent (making clear it's the future):
    My friend
    is arriving tomorrow.
    Next Saturday
    I'm working until six o'clock.
Note that English uses the present progressive (be + -ing) in these contexts.

A veces también se narran en presente eventos del pasado, en lo que se llama "el presente histórico":
En 1492 los españoles llegan a América y también se publica la primera gramática del castellano.
Just like English, Spanish sometimes uses the present to narrate past events (historic present):
In 1492 the Spaniards arrive in América and the first Castilian grammar is published as well.
