Possessive Adjectives with the Song " Come Musica"

    Come musica – Jovanotti

In this song, Jovanotti uses poetic and emotional language to describe a powerful, everyday kind of love; the kind that stays through good days and bad, distractions and silence, dreams and routines.

The lyrics are full of personal images and intimate details, making it a perfect example of how Italian uses possessive adjectives (miei, tuoi, suoi...) to talk about emotions, relationships, and experiences.

As you read and listen, notice how the singer uses possessives to connect deeply to the world around him: his dreams, her voice, their story.

    Learning Objectives
    • Recognize and understand possessive adjectives (mio, tuo, suo, nostro, vostro, loro) in authentic Italian contexts.
    • Identify and interpret possessive expressions in song lyrics.
    • Apply possessive adjectives to describe personal feelings, relationships, and experiences.
    • Develop listening and pronunciation skills through exposure to authentic Italian music.

    Ascolta e Completa

This activity is designed to develop your listening and sound recognition skills, not full comprehension. Don’t worry about understanding every word or phrase.

    1. Read the list of key words below and look at the blanks in the lyrics.

    2. Listen to the song three times. Try to catch the missing words as you hear them. Focus on the sound of the words, not on the meaning.

    3. Compare your answers with your peers and discuss what you heard.

    4. Watch the official music video with captions and check your answers.

    Come Musica

In this activity, you will watch the official music video Come Musica by Jovanotti (Length 3:41)

A transcript with blank spaces is provided for the portion of the song you will focus on for this exercise. A version with full captions is also provided at the bottom of the page as a karaoke version for additional support.

    Un passo alla volta

Remember: In Italian, the possessive adjective agrees in gender and number with the noun it describes, not with the owner. For example:

    • i tuoi sogni (masculine plural)

    • la mia giornata (feminine singular)

    • le nostre partenze (feminine plural)

    Exercise \(\PageIndex{1}\)

    Complete the Sentences

Fill in the blanks with the correct possessive adjective (mio, tuo, suo, nostro, vostro, loro).
Remember: the possessive adjective agrees in gender and number with the noun it describes, not with the owner.
