    My favorite city

    In this activity, you will review what you learned in Chapter 2 through a real video about Italian cities. You will practice recognizing familiar vocabulary, grammar structures, and cultural references, then use what you learn to describe your own favorite city.

    Before watching

    Read the question and possible answers (taken from the video).

    • Highlight the verbs you recognize (essere, avere, c’è, ci sono).

    • Underline the adjectives (bella, ricca, piena, spettacolare, etc.).

    • Circle the names of Italian cities.

    Question:
    Informale: Qual è la tua città italiana preferita?
    Formale: Qual è la sua città italiana preferita?

    Possible answers from the video:

    • La mia città italiana preferita è Torino perché è piena, ricca di musei ed è ricca di piazze.
    • La mia città italiana preferita è Venezia perché è molto bella e poi è una città diversa.
    • Milano, perché mi piace molto ed è anche la capitale della moda.
    • Pisa, Firenze e anche le città piccole sono belle.
    • Milano è una bellissima città.
    • A Milano c’è il Duomo.
    • A Milano ci sono tante persone simpatiche.
    • La mia città italiana preferita è Roma.
    • Roma, la capitale, bellissima. Ci sono un sacco di cose da vedere: monumenti, storia, cultura.
    • Roma è veramente spettacolare.
    • Siena è la mia città italiana preferita.
    • Tutte le città d’arte mi piacciono molto.
    • Le città di lago mi piacciono molto.

    Tip: Create a table with three columns: Verbs – Adjectives – Cities. Fill it in as you read.

    • Notice how Italians use adjectives and verbs to describe cities.

    Now it’s your turn! Talk about cities

    1. Choose an Italian city you know (or one you heard in the video).

    2. Write 2–3 sentences using the verbs essere, avere, c’è, ci sono.

      • Example: Roma è molto bella. A Roma c’è il Colosseo. Ci sono tanti turisti.

    3. Challenge: Try to say your sentences aloud.
