How might this impact the information and research sources you're able to find online?
When it comes to doing research there are many things that you have to consider. What types of information do you need? Where is that information located? Is that information authoritative and unbiased? How can you retrieve a good representation of different perspectives? A part of this is also considering how you will communicate that information. Are you collecting it solely for your own growth, or do you need to share that with classmates, a teacher, or an employer? When trying to convey information, are there things about your intended audience's background or culture that you should consider to make sure you communicate effectively?
Throughout this book we have learned about how specific information sources can be biased. However, this chapter seeks to demonstrate that even the systems we use to create, find, and share information can be biased. The only way to address this is to be purposeful in how we seek out, interpret, and communicate information. You can't be expected to consider every factor, but being informed and knowing which biases and challenges might arise to hamper your research can help you to consider new perspectives and new ways of seeking out alternative viewpoints!
