At least 50 state delegates signed it that day, with others signing over the next year and a half. The names of those who signed the document, however, were not made public until 1777! When people reported on these events, how might the information they shared have changed from August 1776, to later in 1777, or even later after the American Revolutionary War?
A Few Things to Consider
- People who witness an event may have first-hand knowledge of an event.
- People who simply live near to the place and time of an event may have particular views or information about that event.
- People who study an event afterwards may have the benefit of other information that witnesses didn't have at the time.
