There are times, perhaps in a statistics, political science or a mathematics class, when you are asked to manipulate large amounts of data or variables and then analyze and write about it in ways that seems too complicated, chaotic, or unmanageable unless you have a systematic way to break it into manageable units. For example, you might be asked to create a research paper that organizes and classifies the last eight Republican and Democratic Party presidential candidates and then divide and classify their highest ranking policies into groups regarding the landmark policies they campaigned on in order to win the presidential nomination. In doing so, you would need to structure your paper with an organization that would far exceed that of a five paragraph theme. A manageable system of doing this is to take these different parts into understandable units by separating the units or topics into smaller pieces; in others words, you would divide the topics in classified pieces according to their parts. A division/classification essay would be a perfect rhetorical mode would be highly effective for you to use and be familiar with in this scenario.
