    Usar hacer puede indicar la relación temporal de una acción con el presente, pasado o futuro. Se refiere a situaciones continuas o terminadas, con cambios en los tiempos verbales.

    Hace + tiempo + que + presente
    • Acción comenzó en el pasado, sigue en el presente
    • Expresa la duración de esta acción
    Hace más de 20 años que toco piano
    Hace + tiempo + que + pretérito
    • Una acción que ocurrió enteramente en el pasado
    Hace más de 15 años que me gradué de la universidad
    Hacía + tiempo + que + imperfecto
    • La duración de una acción que continúa en el pasado
    Hacía 18 años que trabajaba en la informática
    Hará + tiempo + que + presente
    • La duración de la continuación del tiempo en el futuro
    El sábado hará un mes que toco el piano todos los días

    También usamos un verbo en el imperfecto con desde hacía para identificar una acción que continuaba en el pasado cuando algo más pasó.

    Trabajamos en el proyecto desde hacía una semana cuando nos dimos cuenta de no entender nada.

    Los obreros no recibían un salario digno desde hacía décadas hasta que se organizaron para formar sindicatos.

    Alternativas a hacer

    Desde (que)

    La preposición (desde) y la conjunción (desde que) expresan la medida de un tiempo de un punto anterior, entonces se puede usar muchas veces en lugar de las construcciones con hacer.

    Trabajamos en el proyecto desde el comienzo del semestre.

    Desde que Carlos llegó todo está mejor.

    Llevar

    Usar el verbo llevar en este contexto expresa el paso del tiempo en una situación no terminada. Nota que hay que conjugar el verbo según su sujeto (no como hacer). Sigue la fórmula llevar + tiempo + situación.

    Nicolás y Sofía llevan un año a la espera de casarse.

    ¿Cuánto tiempo llevo esperando?

    Llevaste una semana para lavar los platos.
