This is especially true the advancement of AI, misinformation, and deep fakes. Being able to discern real from fake is an increasingly important skill to have. 
Not only will you need to understand information, you will need to produce it. No matter what course or career you are in, you will need your readers to understand what you say. Good writers usually get better grades, advance in their careers, or receive recognition.
Writing is both an art and a skill.
Effective communication takes skill. You will need to write appropriate messages for the people and purpose of the situation. Through study and practice, you will have the tools you need to compose clear, organized texts.
