Irene está preocupada porque lleva dos días en el apartamento de Marcela y el estafador no responde. Tiene que empezar a buscar otro cuarto donde vivir. Encuentra un grupo en Facebook que se llama “Apt/Rooms for Rent for our International Davis Community” y lee los anuncios: el precio mínimo es novecientos dólares más gastos 8. Y sin baño privado. También ve que loscontratos son de un año completo. Va al cuarto de Marcela y le pregunta:
- Marcela, ¿cuánto son tus gastos mensuales?
- Tengo que pagar treinta dólares por el wifi y veinte dólares de PG&E.
Irene está preocupada porque la vida en Davis no es barata. Decide visitar algunos cuartos libres en unos apartamentos. Uno de los apartamentos está en una residencia estudiantil del campus. ¡Finalmente va a poder ver el campus! Toma la bicicleta de Marcela y va para la universidad.
En el campus un grupo juega al beer pong y otros bailan en el jardín de su casa. Todo es muy bonito, como en las películas. Ahora está en el campus. ¡Los edificios son muy grandes y hay muchas ardillas en el césped y en los árboles!
Irene está muy asustada con la bicicleta. <<No me gusta montar en bicicleta por el campus. Hay muchas personas y todas van muy rápido. Voy a caminar al apartamento>>. Cuando llega a la residencia estudiantil, no hay donde aparcar su bicicleta. Todos los espacios están ocupados. Su cita con la propietaria es a las diez en punto y ahora son las diez y veinte. Ve un árbol y aparca la bicicleta ahí. Irene corre dentro de la residencia. La propietaria está enfadada con ella por llegar tarde, pero le enseña el cuarto.
3rd and U
Irene y Marcela están en un bar que se llama 3rd and U. Toman una cerveza después de un día muy largo y caluroso.
- ¿Qué te parece el cuarto en el campus? - pregunta Marcela.
- Me gusta porque está cerca del ARC, pero es muy pequeño, viejo y caro. No puedo pagar tanto dinero.
- Sí, es mucho dinero - dice Marcela -. Por cierto, acabo de recibir una llamada del estafador.
