    Hoy es cinco de septiembre. Irene dice adiós a su familia y toma un avión en Madrid. Después de doce horas de vuelo, Irene está en el aeropuerto de San Francisco. Está muy cansada pero emocionada. Es su primera vez en los Estados Unidos.

    Irene también está nerviosa por las preguntas de la policía en el aeropuerto. Ella habla bien inglés, pero tiene miedo de no comprender al policía. Cuando llega a la aduana, espera su turno en la fila. <<¡Estoy nerviosa! ¡Ya es mi turno!>> - piensa Irene.

    • Where are you from? - pregunta el policía.
    • Madrid, Spain.
    • ¡Eres de Madrid! ¡Hablas español! ¡Yo también! A ver, ¿cómo te llamas?
    • Mi nombre es Irene y mis apellidos son González García. ¿Cuál es tu profesión?
    • Soy una estudiante nueva en la Universidad de California, Davis.
    • ¿Qué vas a estudiar en la universidad?
    • Voy a estudiar biología, pero quiero hacer también un minor en música.
    • ¿Puedes enseñarme tu visa de estudiante?
    • Sí, aquí está.
    • ¿Cuál es tu dirección en Davis?
    • 238 E Street Davis.
    • Muy bien, bienvenida a los Estados Unidos de América.
    • Gracias.

    Este policía es muy simpático 1, piensa Irene.

    Irene camina a la estación de Bart, el metro de San Francisco. Toma el Bart hasta la estación de Richmond y luego un tren de Amtrak hasta Davis. El tren va a llegar a Davis a las seis de la tarde, pero sabe que los trenes tienen muchos retrasos 2. Está reocupada porque no puede llegar tarde. Tiene una cita a las seis y media con el propietario de su nuevo apartamento que encontró por Facebook.

    Las fotos del apartamento en Facebook son bonitas. La cocina 3 es grande, tiene patio, el wifi está incluido y su cuarto tiene baño. El precio del apartamento es muy caro: ¡mil dólares por un cuarto! En España ella paga trescientos dólares.

    Mientras espera el tren, Irene disfruta del sol de media tarde. Está contenta de estar en California. ¡Está emocionada por empezar!

    Cuando llega el tren, Irene se sienta al lado de un señor muy simpático que vive también en Davis. Se llama Dave y es profesor de psicología. Dave le cuenta muchas anécdotas sobre la vida en Davis. Luego, Irene usa el wifi del tren para mandar un email al propietario del apartamento. El propietario no responde a las llamadas por Skype, ni a los mensajes en Facebook o WhatsApp…¡Qué raro! Irene está nerviosa...
