    Practice Rhythms

    Use a metronome to practice keeping your beat steady. Count out loud and clap or tap these rhythms. Be sure to count the beat subdivisions as you count out loud.

    Rhythm 1

    For this rhythm, perform only the standard notation black notes with stems up. The additional blue notation with cross noteheads are assistance for your own internal subdivision and counting. It is good practice to start subdividing one measure before you are required to perform the new rhythm, as is shown in measure two.

    Rhythm 2

    This rhythm is exactly the same as Rhythm 1, but the subdivision help has been removed.

    Rhythm 3

    As in Rhythm 1, for this rhythm, perform only the standard notation black notes with stems up. The additional blue notation with cross noteheads are assistance for your own internal subdivision and counting.

    This rhythm is exactly the same as Rhythm 3, but the subdivision help has been removed.

    This rhythm practices super duplets in simple meter.
