Establishing Form
Cadences are a pattern of two chords that either continue the musical idea or end the musical idea. Those musical ideas are the phrases that were introduced on the previous page. Recognizing cadences helps us to group the musical information into recognizable units. As we listen, we are seeking to hear patterns and make sense of the music we are hearing. Cadences help give the music structure and a framework.
