Quiero darle las gracias a mi madre, Roberta Wood, por modelar una admiración genuina por las personas bilingües y un respeto para el español y sus hablantes en particular. Gracias a ti entendí que aprender su lengua podía ser una manera de amar a una comunidad. Gracias a la comunidad hispanohablante de los Estados Unidos, y de Chicago en particular, por siempre acogerme y apoyarme en mi aprendizaje. Sería imposible nombrar a todas las personas y los miles de gestos de aliento y apoyo que he recibido desde niña. Con este ejemplo aprendí a ser maestra; quisiera darles a todos mis estudiantes el mismo apoyo y aprecio que he recibido a través de los años.
