2. Self Review Checklist
After you have revised your draft using the feedback you’ve received from your classmate and instructor, complete the self review. Make sure your summary has all of the characteristics on the checklist.
One-Sentence Summary
- One-Sentence Summary includes the author’s name.
- One-Sentence Summary includes the title of the article.
- Both the author’s name and title are correct.
- One-Sentence Summary has a grammatically correct signal phrase (according to the author… the author states…)
- One-Sentence Summary has correctly identified the main idea.
- One-Sentence Summary is paraphrased.
Paragraph Summary
- Paragraph correctly identifies the organizational pattern (pro/con, cause/effect compare/contrast, problem/solution, etc.).
- Paragraph correctly identifies the main supporting details.
- Paragraph uses transitions and other cohesive devices.
- Paragraph frequently refers to the author by last name.
- Paragraph is paraphrased (no quotes are used).
Formatting & Drafting
- Essay has been formatted according to MLA guidelines.
- There are clear changes between the 1st and final drafts.
