Definición y Lista

Indefinite and negative expressions are types of words that refer to people, animals or things that are not specifically defined or that do not exist. In the table below you can find the most common affirmative, indefinite and negative expressions. Notice that expressions with an opposite meaning are in the same color.

Usos y ejemplos

When using these expressions, have the following in mind:

Negative expressions may precede or follow the verb. When they follow the verb, then no should be placed before the verb.

Nadie hace yoga aquí	No one/ Nobody does yoga here
No hace yoga nadie aquí

Alguno and ninguno become algún and ningún before masculine singular nouns.

¿Hay algún museo interesante?	Is there any interesting museums?
No hay ninguno	There is not any

Note that we use "alguno" and "ninguno" to refer to a noun that has already been mentioned. In this example it is understond that "ninguno" refers to "museo"

4. Juego de roles: visita al museo

Tu compañerx y tú van a elegir un rol y representarlo. Try to keep the conversation going for as long as possible. Ask additional questions and react to what you hear.

Role A. You call a very popular museum you are interested in visiting. When the clerk answers, explain why you are calling and ask:

a. if sometimes they offer free tickets for college students.

b. if they have any tickets for Friday or Saturday.

c. if there are works by latino artists in the museum.

d. if there are restaurants and shops nearby.

Role B. You are a clerk at a museum. A customer calls to ask about tickets and general information. Reply that:

a. they never give free tickets to anyone.

b. there are no tickets for those days.

c. there are no works by Latino artist in the museum. They are going to have a temporary exhibition (exposición temporal) on some Latino artists in a few months.

d. There are no restaurants and shops nearby but the downtown (centro) is not far (lejos) and there are some good options for food and shopping there.
