This textbook is created as a part of the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library OER: Open Educational Resources Grant.

This is an opportunity for academic libraries in Illinois to coordinate the development of open education resources (OER). This grant opportunity provides for the development of textbooks and ancillaries as open educational resources to ultimately reduce students’ costs and encourage student success. The open license allows faculty to adapt the materials to meet local needs.

Concordia University Chicago's library, the Klinck Memorial Library, is recognized by the Illinois State Library as a full member in good standing of an Illinois regional library system. Digital resources created under this grant offering must be available with the license of Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International / CC-BY 4.0 International and available at no cost to students.

This project features a collaboration between educational systems in Illinois, the library community, and workforce representatives. Developed OER course materials will be released under a license that permits their free use, reuse, modification, and sharing with others., the library community, and workforce representatives. Developed OER course materials will be released under a license that permits their free use, reuse, modification, and sharing with others.

The identified course, HIS-1200, must be taught using OER created with Secretary of State/Illinois State Library grant funds at least once by Spring 2026 and for three years after the end of the grant.

    About this Book

This book and its ancillary materials were made possible through the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library OER: Open Educational Resources Grant, awarded to the Klinck Memorial Library at Concordia University Chicago. The materials created for HIS-1200, a high enrollment course for undergraduate students.
