Deus noster refugium

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
We will not, then, fear though the earth convulse
and the mountains slide deep in the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains quake at its swelling.
The Lord of Heavenly Armies is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold.
There is a river whose brooks bring bliss
to the City of God, the Sanctuary of the Most High.
God is in her—she cannot be moved;
God will help her—at break of dawn.
Nations rage, kingdoms collapse;
He gives the word: the earth dissolves.
The Lord of Heavenly Armies is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Come, see the works of the Lord
who inflicts horrific devastations on earth:
He puts an end to wars throughout the world;
He shatters the bow and breaks the spear;
He burns the chariot with fire.
“Relax—and know that I am God.
I will be exalted over the nations;
I will be exalted over the earth.”
The Lord of Heavenly Armies is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Lord of Heavenly Armies, our refuge and our strength, when chaos rages and we are prone to despair, enable us to relax in the stronghold of Your love. By the Spirit-River, which flows from the Throne and the Lamb, strengthen us with the assurance of that eternal bliss which is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
