Beatus vir
Blessed is the man
who follows not the wicked’s advise,
nor joins the sinner’s path,
nor sits among the scoffers.
The Lord’s instruction is his delight,
and on it meditates day and night.
He is like a tree long-planted
by free-flowing streams
that yields its fruit in season,
whose leaves can never wither.
He prospers in all he does.
Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like wind-driven chaff,
and shall have no standing in the Judgment;
neither shall sinners be seen in the congregation of the just,
for the Lord knows the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked shall perish.
Gracious Father, in Holy Baptism you rooted us along the river of life flowing from You and the Lamb. May His cross be for us the Tree of Life in paradise with all Your blesséd saints; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
