    Read, Annotate and Take Cornell Notes "The Nature/Nurture Question"

    Please complete the following and be prepared to submit it by the due date:

    1. Read the psychology Chapter titled "The Nature-Nurture Question."
    2. Apply the before, during and after reading strategies you have been taught in class. If you need review them, please consult the Powerpoint review at the beginning of this week's module.
    3. STEP #1 Required: Previewing the chapter and assessing your background knowledge. Review the vocabulary for the chapter BEFORE you read. What sources could you consult to give you a little more background on this topic? Here is one sources to read BEFORE you read the chapter to provide background knowledge before you read the chapter. Even a quick read of the article below will elevate your comprehension of the chapter material.

      EVALUATE and RECORD the FIVE most significant/helpful EXTERNAL text features in your Reader's Notebook.  Write an entry in your TOC.

    4. STEP #2 Required: Read and annotate the chapter on the print out provided. Remember, whatever you highlight, you need to label that text with writing of your own on the side of the text. Labels can include definitions for terms, relationships between ideas, key headings, explaining the significance of the title, supporting facts, expert opinions, etc., questions, etc.

      IDENTIFY and RECORD the relationships the author uses as determined by analysis of internal features in your Reader's Notebook.  Write an entry in your TOC.

    5. STEP #3 Required: Create Complete Cornell notes for this chapter. Using the Cornell sheets provided, elaborate on your learning by taking phrase-form (NOT complete sentences) short notes. Your labels, headings, terms, and questions should go in the left hand column and the actual information (notes) that go with the labels, headings, terms, and questions should be written in the right hand column. Practice self-testing using the Cornell notes to get practice with the format.

    6.  STEP #4: Turn in this packet of work at the beginning of the class period on the due date.
