    Identity:

    In order to craft a message, you need to identify with the audience and look at ways to speak to that audience. One way we identify with the audience is through shared history. For instance, most of your classmates were born and raised in Chicago. They may have attended the Bud Billiken Parade, they have undoubtedly had a story of riding the CTA. In this situation, you can identify as a member of the same group, that of a Chicago native. But what other groups do you identify with?  For this assignment, you are going to identify one group to which you belong. It could be based on any of the demographic information we identified earlier. We all belong to multiple groups but for the purposes of this assignment, identify one group. 

     

    Once you have identified your group, ie: female, research how this group's rights have changed or evolved over the last 20 or more  years. 

     

    For instance, as a woman, I might chose this article to provide me with some data about changes for woman over time. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2020/08/13/key-takeaways-on-americans-views-on-gender-equality-a-century-after-u-s-women-gained-the-right-to-vote/

    Something in that article may surprise, interest, and educate me and be something I want to share with my audience. 

     

    Create a 2-3 minute extemporaneous speech for the next class

    • identify the group you choose,
    • why, and
    • what you learned about the groups rights 20-30 years ago and their rights today.
