- This page explains the module and invites students to watch a short TED talk to introduce them to the concept of code-switching. Watching and discussing the video will help them begin to brainstorm a word they may want to use for their class dictionary.
- 5.2: Peer Review of Sample Dictionary Entry (Activity)
- This page includes a class activity that invites students to consider audience, purpose, and register. Students will also see a sample class dictionary entry and get the opportunity to perform a practice peer review. At the end of this activity, the class will create guidelines for what they want to be sure everyone includes in their dictionary entries. This activity can be completed before or after students have completed the first draft of their class dictionary entry ("assessment").

- Directions for the class dictionary entry are included here. A handout is included as an attachment with all the same info. Feel free to modify and share with class.
- 5.4: Extension Activities
- Three extension activities are included: #1) Invitation for students to research and write an entry for a word from a different linguistic community. #2) Directions for the class to break into groups with various roles so that they can design, assemble, and edit the class dictionary. #3) Directions for writing a reflection of the process and their learning. A handout is included as an attachment with all the same info. Feel free to modify and share with class.
