Rhetorical Appeals
SLO: Employ rhetorical strategies consistent with the purpose of the writing task.
Instructor will show Juror #3’s last monologue to class (1:29:15 - 1:32:29)

The instructor will ask the students to answer the following questions for discussion (10min):

Does Juror #3’s emotion assist or harm his argument by the end of the film?

Does Juror #3 make any solid logical arguments in his last monologue?

Does Juror #3 seemingly tumultuous relationship with his son create any kind of bias that might cloud his judgment of the case? Why or why not?
After ten minutes, the instructor will open up the class for discussion.
After the discussion, the instructor will present a lecture/powerpoint on the rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos.
