We will specifically discuss incarcerated Black hip hop generationers from an economic/employment perspective as well as mass incarceration's impact on the Black community. The psychological, physical, emotional, familial, and societal health of individuals is impacted when someone is incarcerated. The prevalence of imprisonment among hip hop generationers has undoubtedly had a significant influence on the wider Black community and hip hop culture as a whole. Many hip hop artists have songs, videos, and albums based around their incarceration. This is telling of the influence jail and prison has on hip hop practitioners and cultural norms, value systems, and even expectations. The apparent normalization of incarceration is consequential.
