    • A general sense of obligation is often expressed impersonally. Where English says you should, one ought to, etc., Spanish would typically use se, followed by verbs such as deber, necesitar, ;tener que, no poder, no permitir, etc., in the third person:
One (You) should be careful in crossing the street.
One (You) ought to wash the fruit before consumption.
You had to go across the jungle to get there.

    You cannot enter without authorization.
    Alcohol consumption is not allowed.

    • A more common way to express obligation, both formally and informally, is Hay que + infinitive. It can be used in all tenses:
One should be careful in crossing the street.
    One should stay informed.
You had to go across the jungle to get there.
An ambulance had to be called.
We'll have to be patient and wait until tomorrow.
We're going to have to be patient and wait until tomorrow.
