    Voces was created out of a commitment to accessibility, real-world communication, and alignment with ACTFL proficiency standards. As a community college Spanish program, we serve a diverse population of learners, and our goal is to provide them with practical language skills they can begin using immediately, whether in class, in their communities, or beyond. At the same time, we aim to lower costs and eliminate barriers created by expensive, publisher-owned materials. 

    Voces follows a proficiency-based approach grounded in the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards and Proficiency Guidelines. We want our students to engage in meaningful, contextualized communication from the very beginning, with a consistent focus on what they can do with the language at each stage of their development. Although designed with Butler Community College students in mind, these materials are adaptable. Whether used in full or in part, we hope they serve as a flexible framework for anyone seeking to teach or learn Spanish in a way that is authentic, communicative, and grounded in proficiency. 

    We are deeply grateful to Butler Community College for supporting this initiative, and to the many educators who have paved the way by creating high-quality Open Educational Resources, especially Trayectos from Texas A&M University, the University of Kansas Open Language Resource Center, and the World Languages program at Colorado State University Pueblo. Their work has inspired us and made it possible for us to adapt and remix materials in ways that best serve our students and our teaching context.
