Solutions Presentation
For your 4-5 minute verbal Solutions Presentation with slides or other visuals, you will choose an environmental issue that interests you--it can be one we have discussed in this class, one from your Take Apart Research, or a separate one that you find compelling--and research and present various solutions for that issue.
The presentation should include the following:· Context: state the issue and provide data on why it’s a problem
· Scholarly literature: briefly outline various books and articles that you used in your research
· Your argument/thesis: clearly state what your solutions are
· Evidence: argue for how the evidence on the issue suggests that your solutions are relevant and effective
· Visual: Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to enhance your presentation and help the audience follow its most salient points. Presentations will be followed by questions and comments. You will be assessed on your professionalism, the content of your presentation and responses to questions, and your presentation skills (eye contact, voice modulation, body language, keeping to the time limit, etc.). Be sure to rehearse your presentation before delivery.
Proposal
Your proposal should provide a brief (1-2 paragraph) overview of your planned project. Be sure to include the following: 1) a provisional title; 2) an introduction paragraph that describes the broad topic that your research will help us better understand; 3) a more specific paragraph that describes your planned research, articulates the research question you hope to address, and describes the contribution that you hope that your research will make; and, 4) a description of the methodology and sources that you plan to utilize.
As you brainstorm, try working with the following template to generate ideas, which you can then flesh out more fully in your proposal: I plan to study [brief description of topic]. What I hope to understand is [question that your research will address]. I will work to shed light on this question by analyzing [describe key sources here]. This topic is significant and worth pursuing because [describe what you see as the significance of the research].
