La gramática: El imperativo de Usted, ustedes y nosotr@s

The imperative forms of usted, ustedes, and nosotros are the same as the subjunctive forms. The only difference is the specific intent of the communication. With the imperative you are giving someone a direct command.

usted – Por favor, ponga los libros en el mostrador. (spoken to one person)

Please put the books on the counter.

ustedes – Por favor, pongan los libros en el mostrador. (spoken to a group)

nosotros – Pongamos los libros en el mostrador. (A suggestion given to a group including oneself.)

El imperativo con pronombres - The imperative with pronouns

    LOS PRONOMBRES REFLEXIVOS

SIÉNTENSE EN LAS SILLAS. (SIT ON THE CHAIRS)

NO SE SIENTEN EN EL SUELO. (DON´T SIT ON THE FLOOR)

    Thinking about the grammar

Notice that the pronoun attaches to the verb with positive commands and that it goes before the verb with negative commands.

Repaso de los pronombres reflexivos: Remember that we use these when the subject is the same as either the direct or the indirect object. The subject is doing the action to itself.

    me nos
    te (os)
    se se

    LOS PRONOMBRES DE OBJETO INDIRECTO

Estudiantes: ¿Cuándo le entregamos las composiciones (a usted)? (When shall we turn the compositions in to you?)

Profesora: Entréguenme las composiciones mañana. (Turn them in to me tomorrow)

No me entreguen las composiciones tarde. (Don´t turn them in to me late.)

Repaso de los pronombres de complemento indirecto: Remember that indirect objects are receiving something.

    me nos
    te (os)
    le (se) les (se)

    LOS PRONOMBRES DE OBJETO DIRECTO

Estudiantes: ¿Dónde ponemos los books? (Where do we put the books?)

Bibliotecario: Pónganlos en el mostrador. (Put them on the counter.)

No los devuelvan a las estanterías. (Don´t return them to the bookshelves.)

Repaso de los pronombres de complemento directo: Remember that direct objects are directly acted upon.

    me nos
    te (os)
lo / la los / las

LOS PRONOMBRES DE OBJETO INDIRECTO Y DIRECTO JUNTOS

Estudiantes: ¿Cuándo le estregamos las composiciones?

Bibliotecario: Entréguenmelas mañana. (Hand them in to me tomorrow.)

No me las entreguen tarde. (Don´t hand them in to me late).

Práctica: Mandatos formales - Formal commands

study spanish: formal commands unit 8: 90

Spanish Language and Culture: command forms: ud. commands 1, 2, and 3

    Actividad comunicativa: Mandatos - Commands

Think of a situation in which you would give commands to a group. Give three positive commands and three negative commands. Have your instructor check your work. It is likely you will be responsible for this on the test.
