Devising a play boils down to teamwork. Creating a fictional world from scratch is already one of the hardest things you can do and now you are asking other people with differing opinions and world views to help you build this new world. Success in theatre has always been about teamwork and all of it begins in the bonding process and rules you create in the beginning of the process before any work is done. As a leader you need to make sure that each team member feels valued and that they have a voice and you should use the process to identify the strengths of each team member so that they can be placed in a position that will allow them to creatively thrive.

There will be times where people will fight and tensions will rise, but that is because the stakes are high and art matters to those involved. Remember to keep your team focused and explain decisions and work them out with the group. If you are able to harness the creative energies of a team, then you will reach new levels of artistic achievement you never dreamed possible.

This is a guide to help you along the way as you tackle the impossible with your courageous team. I hope it helps you on this journey.

    Break a leg,

    Nick Garcia
