Auditions are the interviews of the entertainment world. Usually in auditions actors will come and present material of their choosing and you will hopefully get a sense of the actor’s talent when working on a piece they are interested in. Do not cast solely off of auditions. Auditions can be deceptive and an actor could have spent years refining an audition piece and may not be near as good in performing your material. Auditions are similar to a screening process. When an actor comes on stage and introduces themselves you get a sense of who they are and what kind of person they will be in rehearsals. When watching auditions, write each actors name down and next to their name write what characters they could possibly play in your production. During the actual monologues you get a sense of how they perform. At the end of auditions thank everyone who attended and create a callback list where you will invite several actors for each role to audition again using sides from the actual script of your production.
