You will be working on weekly written assignments called Quotes and Notes and will bring a hardcopy to class. Quotes and Notes is designed to help you engage with the themes and topics we’ll be discussing and to aid your critical thinking/writing skills. For this assignment you will be choosing passages (2-4) from an assigned text that interest you and writing a short (1 1/2 -2 pages) literary response to the passage you selected, and it should engage with close reading. Quotes and Notes will complement your reading and your interpretations of our texts throughout the course. They will also often be the basis for class discussion, so feel free to address topics and insights in the text you would like to explore further in class discussion. Each student will be called on randomly once this semester open class with ideas, insights, or questions from your Quotes & Notes.
