As first introduced in Unit 1 with SQ3R and Summary writing, it’s worth your time to stop and reflect on all the reading you do in college. This not only helps you think about the content and what it means to you, but it also helps cement it within your memory, allowing you to recall the key ideas later and to apply them in other reading and writing situations.

    Homework 3: Summary and Reflection

First, read the short story provided for Activity 6.

Next, write a 1-page summary-reflection paper which must include:

    • One short paragraph summarizing the content of the story. Remember that a summary should focus on the main points of the text. (Refer back to your notes from Unit 1 for a refresher on writing summaries).
    • Two paragraphs reflecting on your experience of the story. Include details about what you learned, what surprised you, what it made you think about, and/or how it affected you personally, professionally, psychologically and/or emotionally.
    • Refer back to the questions in 3.2 Explore the Way the Text Affects You for more ideas of how to compose a reflection.

We will discuss these reflections in class.
