El pretérito has a number of verbs that take entirely new stems. Verbs that belong to this group also have a special set of endings.

Let’s call these “los súper irregulares.”

The super irregular verbs use these unique stems:

These verbs all share the following set of endings. Notice that unlike the usual endings in el pretérito, these endings do not have accents.

Mi esposo me trajo flores. Yo le dije: “Gracias, mi amor.”

*The verbs that have a stem that ends in ‘j’ lose the “i” in “ieron” Dijeron/ trajeron/ tradujeron.

*Hacer becomes hizo in the usted/ él/ ella form to maintain the “suh” sound of “hacer.”

Then, there are four other verbs that are even more irregular in the preterite.
