To really understand what you’re reading, it’s helpful to summarize the material.

A summary is a short version of the text that highlights the most important ideas. It gives someone who hasn’t read the story a clear idea of what it’s about.

- Read each story carefully.
- Identify the main character and the story’s purpose.
- Condense and categorize key information to help others understand the main ideas.
- Always write out any numbers in your summaries.
- Write a brief summary in your own words in Spanish.
For each story you summarize, use this to help you summarize, if relevant to the story: names, relationships, physical descriptions, personalities, and lifestyles.
