    Objectif

In this section, you will learn how to use pronouns with imperatives

    On étudie !

    (a) Object pronouns and reflexive pronouns can be added to ends of an affirmative command with a hyphen (-):

Prends-le. Permettez-moi. Faites-le. (Take it. Allow me. Do it.)

    Dépêchez-vous ! Levez-vous ! (Hurry up! Get up!)

    (b) Me and te change to moi and toi in affirmative commands:

    Dépêche-toi ! Écoutez-moi ! (Hurry up ! Listen to me!)

    (c) For negative commands they stay in front of the verb:

Ne me parle pas ! Ne lui permets pas de fumer. Ne le donnez pas au chien. (Don’t talk to me. Don’t let him smoke. Don’t give it to the dog.)

    (d) The pronouns en and y are placed just like object pronouns.

Prenons-en N’en prenons pas. (Let’s take some. Let’s not take any.)

    (e) But you never really hear anyone use y in a negative command. Only positive ones:

    Vas-y! Restons-y ! (Let’s go (there) Lets stay there! )

    (f) When using the pronouns en and y with commands, the tu form of er verbs must have an s at the end for the purpose of the liaison.

    Va au cinéma!  ➔ Vas-y!

Parle de ton problème. ➔ Parles-en.

    Mange des pommes. ➔ Manges-en.

    (g) Here is a summary of the order in which object pronouns appear in affirmative and negative commands :
