    It is a very useful expression that takes on different meanings depending on the interrogative pronoun you place after it :

    Vous pouvez prendre n’importe quel siège.

    N’importe quelle boutique va le vendre.

    You can take any seat.

    Any shop will sell it.
    N’importe où anywhere, wherever Je peux vivre n’importe où en Espagne I can live anywhere in Spain.
    N’importe comment (in) any way, however Il ne faut pas le faire n’importe comment. You mustn’t (can’t) do it just any old way.
    N’importe quand any time, whenever Vous pouvez partir n’importe quand. You can leave at any time.
    N’importe qui anyone

    N’importe qui aurait pu le faire.

    Je ne suis pas n’importe qui !

    Anyone could have done it.

    I’m not just anybody!
    N’importe quoi* anything

    Il ne faut pas manger n’importe quoi.

    Je peux écrire sur n’importe quoi.

    You shouldn’t eat just anything.

    I can write about anything.
    N’importe lequel any one, any of them

    Prends n’importe lequel.

    N’importe lequel fera l’affaire.

    Take any one (of them).

    Any of them will do the trick.

    * N'importe quoi ! is a very common thing to say. Depending on the context, it could mean anything, nonsense, whatever:

    Il fera tout et n’importe quoi. (He’ll do anything and everything.)

    Tu dis n’importe quoi ! (You’re talking nonsense/rubbish!)

    Other expressions with the verb importer include:

    Qu’importe ! Peu importe. (Who cares ! It doen’t really matter.)

    Les prépositions pour vs. par

    (a) The preposition pour has many meanings depending on the context. It can mean something like for, to, in order to, but it may also not be translatable to English. We have seen it appear in seentences likes these:

    J’achète un cadeau pour ma copine. (I buy a gift for my girlfriend.)

    Nous recyclons pour sauver la planète. (We recycle in order to save the planet.)

    Pour moi, c’est super bon. (I think it’s really good.)

    Merci pour le conseil. (Thanks for the advice.)

    Il l’a acheté pour 50 dollars. (He bought it for 50 dollars.)

    On va aller en Italie pour deux semaines. (We are going to Italy for two weeks.)

    (b) Par can mean by, through, per and more, depending on context. For example:

    par hasard (by accident)

    un roman par Balzac (a book by Balzac)

    par là (over there)

    Il le fait par habitude (He does it out of habit)

    Ça coûte 20 euros par kilo (That costs 20 euros per kilo.)
