    Learning Objectives

In this section, you will be able to:

    • Identify and understand university words
    • Demonstrate knowledge about the school and subjects by answering the questions.
    • Talk about your university
    • Write about yourself and your school.

    Reading 1

Rana is talking with her friends about schools in the coffee shop. She is telling her friends about her cousin, Nawal, who is studying at the Lebanon University. Read the text then answer the questions

    Check Your Understanding

    • Write the answers to these questions in your notebook:
      • من أين نوال؟ وأين تدرس؟
      • في أي سنة نوال في الجامعة؟
      • ماذا تدرس نوال؟
      • من صديقات نوال؟ وماذا يدرسن؟
      • أيّ اللغات يتكلم الأساتذة في الجامعة؟
    • Role-play: Imagine you are sitting with your friend at a coffee shop. You start telling your friend about your cousin who studies at a university in another country. You describe what your cousin is studying, in which year she is, and how she studies (for example, on campus or عن بُعد). Then you talk about her friends at the university — where they are from and what they study. Finally, tell your friend what languages the professors speak at that university.
    • Write a Short Story in Arabic: Write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) in Arabic about yourself or about a cousin or friend who studies at a university or school in another country. In your story, include:
      • His or her name, and where he or she is from.
      • Where he or she studies (the name of the university or school and the country).
      • What he or she studies and what year they are in.
      • If they study on campus or by distance learning (عن بُعد).
      • What their friends study and where they are from.
      • What languages the professors speak at the university.
    Speaking Activity

In your language class, practice introducing your paternal cousin to your classmates. Mention her name, her home country, where she's currently living in the USA, the university or college she's attending, the languages she can speak, and her field of study

    Writing Activity

You have been selected as the "New Student of the Month" at your high school. The school has asked you to write a brief introduction about yourself for the school newsletter. In your writing, include the following details: your name, nationality, information about your family, where you live, and the classes you are taking
