    Learning Objectives

In this section, you will be able to:

    • Listen and understand the conversation about school.
    • Exchange information with your classmate about your name, nationality, major, classes you are enrolled in, your occupation, and where you reside.

    Dialogue 3

This is a conversation between Shadi and Ameer, two university students while waiting in line at the college bookstore. Listen and read the dialogue then answer the questions.

    Check Your Understanding

    • Role Play 1: Talking about University and Distance Learning
      • Work with a partner. One of you is like Adam, the other is like Ahmad. Have a short conversation about your school now and your plans for the future.

        Prompts to help you:

      • Greet each other and ask:
      • Say what you want to study in the future and at which university.
      • Say if you want to study on campus or عن بُعد (distance learning).
      • Ask your partner:
      • Congratulate or wish your friend good luck.
    • Role Play 2: Talking about Lectures, Professors, and Graduation
      • Work with a partner. One of you is like Nadine, the other is like Nader. Have a short conversation about your lectures today, your college, your year, and your graduation.

        Prompts to help you:

      • Ask each other: هل عندك محاضرات اليوم؟
      • Say how many lectures you have and in which subjects.
      • Talk about your professors.
      • Say what year you are in
      • Congratulate each other.
    • On your first day of Arabic class, you'll be meeting other students. Create a list of questions in Arabic that you'd like to ask your classmates and prepare responses for when they ask you the same questions. Your questions and responses should cover the following: name, nationality, major, classes you are enrolled in, your occupation, and where you reside.
    • Imagine you're a high school student who has been assigned a presentation by your teacher. The assignment is to create a speaking presentation about a university that you would consider enrolling in. Your presentation should include the university name, location, programs, and the major you're interested in. You can explore the university websites to gather information.
