    Learning Objectives

In this section, you will be able to:

    • listen and understand the conversation about school.
    • Follow a simple conversation introducing friends at a university or school.
    • Ask and answer questions about nationality, college, and languages.

    Dialogue #1

This dialogue takes place in the college cafeteria. Noor introduces her friend Ayat to Hana. They talk about where they are from, what they study, what year they are in, and the languages they speak. Listen to the dialogue then answer the questions.

    Dialogue 2:

This dialogue is between Adam and Ahmad, two friends talking about school and their future study plans. Adam is still in high school and considering studying at the American University in Jordan or pursuing distance learning at جامعةِ اليرموك Yarmouk University. He shares that he wants to study Arabic literature. Ahmad tells him that the American University in Jordan is beautiful and modern, and says he is studying computer engineering. Then answer the questions.

Student is studying online with a competer on the table and he is taking notes on the notebook.

    Check Your Understanding

    • Role Play #1: Meeting at the Cafeteria

Work with a partner. One student is Hana, the other is a new student. Use these ideas to guide your conversation. Greet each other and ask how you are. Ask where each person is from. Ask what each person studies and what year they are in. Ask what languages each person speaks. End by saying "Nice to meet you."

    • Role Play #2: Talking about Future Studies

With a partner, act out a conversation like Adam and Ahmad. Change the details to talk about your own dreams for university. Greet each other and ask how school is. Talk about what university you want to attend and in which country. Say whether you want to study on campus or distance learning (عن بُعد). Say what you want to study. Ask your friend what he or she studies.

    • Talk about your school or university, mentioning its name, location, and the subjects you are studying. Also, share two or three interesting thing about it.
